SPECIAL EVENTS BLOG How to Tap Into Your Creativity for Special Events
Working in the creative business naturally comes with some lulls. So having periods of feeling uninspired can be inevitable. However, a great creative person doesn’t focus on the rut. Rather, they put their focus on getting out of it and finding their next dose of motivation.Oftentimes, a lack of motivation or inspiration can come from simply being overworked. When you take on more than you can handle, you can easily burn out and find yourself feeling frustrated with the work at hand. In this case, it can be prudent to get up and go – anywhere! Step away from your work (yes, it will be there when you get back!) and take a breather. A nice break can refresh even the most bogged down mind, so don’t discount the benefits of a breath of fresh air.
It can also help to mix up your inspiration sources from the typical Pinterest boards and wedding magazines that you usually frequent. This could be an excuse for you to take some extra time browsing your favorite home decor catalog or to spend your weekend visiting a nearby garden. Don’t get me wrong–wedding blogs and magazines are great. But after a while, you’ll start to see the same things, and that can lead to mental exhaustion.
Another great way to feel creative is to have brainstorming sessions with your team. In our office, we like to get together and just throw around ideas. We build off of each other’s thoughts. We don’t keep that limited to the office, though. We’re all open to sending each other photos and thoughts as we’re thinking of things around town. That way, you never have to worry about an idea disappearing before you get to your computer!
Once you feel that light bulb turn on, take it and run. Take notes. Draw up a design. Create a to-do list. Do whatever you need to do in order to ensure that it becomes a productive idea. More often than not, that first spark will lead to a string of other ideas so be patient. Let the inspiration come to you. Approach the world with an open mind and you can’t go wrong!
