Rescue on the Runway

‘Giving back’ is good for the soul … we like to dedicate time and our resources to help those less fortunate that need our help and resources. The rewards We’ve gained from helping others have made our success all that much sweeter. You know that feeling – the warm, fuzzy one you get when you give a gift? Turns out, it’s good for your health. A growing body of research shows that giving a gift, as well as volunteering or donating to charities, has a positive impact on your physical and mental health and can contribute to a longer life.

Pilots N Paws

Pilots N Paws® is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our site is intended to be a meeting place for volunteers engaged in the valuable services of rescuing, sheltering and adopting animals, and volunteer pilots a

nd plane owners willing to assist with animal transportation. The intent of Pilots N Paws is to provide an environment in which volunteers can come together and arrange or schedule rescue flights, overnight foster care or shelter, and all other related activities.

Facts About Pilots N Paws

A registered 501c3 charity

Pilots N Paws was founded in 2008 by animal-lover Debi Boies and pilot Jon Wehrenberg. The idea first took flight when Jon agreed to help Debi by

flying a rescued Doberman from Florida to South Carolina, to save the dog’s life. The trip was a success and the two brainstormed on how to rescue other animals. Spay/Neuter campaigns in parts of the country were working, while in other parts, primarily in the south, pet overpopulation was still a huge problem. There had to be a way to turn a problem into a solution. Former pets were dying needlessly. They needed transport.

The dream quickly became a reality when the website, https://www.pilotsnpaws.org was launched, to provide a location where private pilots willing to provide free transport, and people and organizations who rescue, shelter or foster animals, could connect to save lives. Today the organization has reached more than 5,000 pilot volunteers and more than 12,000 volunteers.

Each year, the volunteers of Pilots N Paws save thousands of lives. Those lives come in the form of any animal that can be transported using a plane. Dogs, cats, pigs, reptiles and rabbits are just a few who have taken one of our flights.

Pet overpopulation is a disturbing problem in the United States. More than 4 million no-longer-wanted pets are euthanized each year. While spay/neuter programs have worked to decrease domestic animal populations in some parts of the country, other areas are considered high-kill. A staggering 70% of dogs that enter shelters in the southern part of the country are euthanized. Until now, there have been few options for these innocent victims. Pilots N Paws is helping to change that.

Thank you for contacting us. By publicizing the work of Pilots N Paws, you are helping make positive change.

Arizona Small Dog Rescue

Welcome to Arizona Small Dog Rescue (AZSDR), a non-profit registered 501(c)3 no-kill rescue shelter.  We are a group of volunteers that have dedicated our lives to rescuing and saving homeless, unwanted, abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs.

When space is available, we accept owner surrenders of all breeds under 20 pounds for no fee or a small fee.  We spay/neuter, vaccinate and medically examine ALL DOGS that come into our rescue.  We have many dogs turned in every week and always have a wide variety of available dogs that would fit into all families and homes.

Most of the animals in our shelter come from the euthanasia list from Maricopa County Animal Control and other shelters in the area.  Some are dogs who are surrendered by owners who can no longer care for their pets, and some are injured, ill, or stray dogs brought in by good Samaritans.

Please check our available dog’s page to see if there’s a dog you’d like to meet.  Please read the bio for any dog of interest and the location the dog will be listed as either the shelter or foster home.  You may meet any of our shelter dogs Tuesday-Sunday, 11 am-6 pm, or contact the foster to set up an appointment for a dog in foster.  Please continue to check the available dog’s page daily for newly rescued dogs.
